Mitsubishi on Facebook

Mitsubishi is taking a big step into social-media marketing with the debut of two exciting new Facebook campaigns aimed at increasing interest in two exciting new Mitsubishi vehicles.

To support the launch of the 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, an athletic compact crossover that’s big on both fuel efficiency and driving excitement, the automaker is offering a unique way to preview the vehicle before it goes on sale in the U.S.—by sending one lucky winner and his/her guest all the way to Mitsubishi headquarters in Tokyo.

This grand prize includes airfare and six nights worth of deluxe accommodations at a premier Tokyo hotel, along with pickup from the airport in a new Outlander Sport, a tour of Mitsubishi HQ, a day-long tour of Tokyo, round-trip bullet-train tickets to Kyoto and $1,500 in spending money. Residents of the U.S. over the age of 21 can register for the prize now at Mitsubishi’s Facebook page (facebook.com/Mitsubishi) and can enter once a week through Sept. 27, 2010, for a chance to win the visit to Japan and a host of other weekly prizes. These will range from a $500 gas card to an Apple iPad.

In addition, to celebrate the launch of the 2011 Mitsubishi Eclipse, the automaker is sponsoring a photo contest that puts the focus directly on its “attainable exotic.” The goal here: Take pictures of the Eclipse in the most exotic setting you can find, then post them to the Mitsubishi Facebook page. But this is a photo contest with a twist, too. Even if you don’t have your own Eclipse—and actually, even if you do—the automaker has put a number of high-res digital images of the car on its Flickr stream and is urging contestants to use those, along with their Photoshop skills, to participate.

A Nikon D300 digital SLR camera will be the top prize, with other available swag to include $100 gift cards and a Nikon Coolpix S800 digital camera.

And while only a limited number of winners will take home prizes in the Eclipse contest, Mitsubishi is making it easier than ever for all buyers to take home the car itself. The price of admission to Mitsubishi’s striking sports coupe gets lowered a full $1,700, to just $18,999, for the 2011 model year.

Consider it further evidence of how Mitsubishi value eclipses that of the competition.
